Russian Embassies Around the World

Russian Embassies

This website is owned and operated by a private agency. We provide information about Russian visas and entry requirements for travelers. This website does not belong to, and is in no way affiliated with, the Russian government.

Russian Embassies represent the Russian Federation to countries around the world. They maintain diplomatic ties between Russian and the nation in which they are based.

Russian citizens abroad can go to their Embassy if they require assistance, for example, getting a new passport.

Embassies are also responsible for issuing visas to foreign nationals who plan to visit Russia.

Many travelers can now get a Russia electronic visa online, without having to visit an embassy. If you are not eligible for this E-visa, you will have to go to your nearest Russian Embassy to apply.

Do I Need to Go to a Russian Embassy to Apply for a Visa?

Most foreign passport holders are required to obtain a visa to visit Russia.

Nationals of many countries must apply at a Russian Embassy, regardless of the type of visa they need. These countries include the Australia, the UK, and the USA.

If you have a passport issued by an E-visa-eligible country, such as any EU member state, India, Japan, or Saudi Arabia, you can avoid a trip to a Russian embassy by applying online.

However, if your trip to Russia does not meet the criteria for the E-visa, you will need to go to an Embassy, regardless of your nationality. Examples include:

  • Visits longer than 16 days
  • Moving to Russia
  • Trips for purposes such as work, study, etc.

What Can I Do at a Russian Embassy?

The numerous Russian Embassies around the world are responsible for the following functions:

  • Promoting Russian culture, economy, and tourism abroad
  • Communicating messages between the Russian government and the government of the country where the embassy is located
  • Informing the Russian government about important political, social, economic or military events in the country where the embassy is located
  • Organizing visits by Russian officials and preparing treaties and agreements between the countries

Most of the embassies also have consular functions, which mean that they are responsible for the following:

  • Processing Russia visa applications
  • Issuing and renewing passports for Russian residents in the country
  • Registering births, deaths, marriages, or adoptions for Russian citizens
  • Providing assistance to Russian citizens abroad

Even if a country does not have a main Russian embassy, it will be more than likely that Russia will still have consular representation in the region.

Russia has over 250 embassies, consulates and permanent missions around the world.

Find below the Russian embassy locations and contact details for some of the countries whose citizens most often request visas in order to travel to Russia.
